Band Commissions

Commissioning a work can be one of the most artistically enriching experiences for your school, community, or organization!

While music is often commissioned for a specific purpose or event (anniversary, dedication, memorial), many groups commission a work for the purpose of engaging students in the creation of something new.
With over three decades in the classroom, Tim's familiarity with band pedagogy has resulted in accessible publications that lead to successful performances, as well as widespread appeal. In addition, his affiliation with leading music publishers provides an outlet for commissioned works to go into print, thus shining a global spotlight on your organization.

  • "Perhaps more impressive than the piece itself was Timothy Loest's willingness to communicate with us about the literature he wrote. The students received their first taste of a "living" composer. Our compliments go out to both the composer and work in giving our beginning students a very worthwhile experience with the composing process and a very fun performance."
    Jeremy Mann Director, Minnesota
  • "This is a wonderfully written march for middle school band students. I've used it with several honor bands around my state and will continue to do so. Friends of Freedom is now one of my 'ace in the hole' pieces. Thanks, Tim"
Dr. William Owens Composer and Clinician, Texas
  • "Every time I listen to Cloud Gate I cannot help but be impressed. It is truly a beautiful piece; I think the band sounded better than they've ever sounded on it. It has definitely been the collective favorite of their young musical careers. So thank you once again for working with the Westview Hills Concert Band. My students and I hope to have the opportunity to work with you again."
    Karen Moffett Director, Illinois
  • "My band class went to a competition and the judge's favorite piece was Night Flight of the Gargoyles. I especially like the clarinet effect near the middle. So, I just wanted to compliment you on the excellent piece. I'm very glad that you made it - it's great!"
    Kristie Student, California
